The project “SUGGESTUS – Digital Intelligence Platform for Immersive Enjoyment of Cultural Heritage” (Unique Project Code: B61B20000160005 – Research Project No. F/080012/04/X35) is located within the framework of the program promoted by the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) – Axis I, Action 1.1.3 PON Enterprise and Competitiveness 2014-2020. In addition, on Dec. 21, 2021, by Directorial Decree protocol mise.AOO_IAI.REGISTRO UFFICIALE.U.0438907.21-12-2021, the Ministry of Economic Development granted a 12-month extension of the SUGGESTUS project’s deadline, from Dec. 31, 2022 to Dec. 31, 2023. The project underwent several revisions while waiting for funding from the MISE, which was actually received by Decree no. 1121 of 20/02/2020.

The project includes activities to build an Internet of Things (IoT) and Data Analysis platform, which goes beyond the current state of the art, for information gathering and intelligent data analysis using statistical, Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques to generate vertical applications and in particular in the field of cultural heritage. The primary goal of the SUGGESTUS project is to create an ecosystem of services and applications designed to enhance the experience of visiting and learning about cultural and artistic heritage and to realize immersive experiences through multiple access channels. Within the project System Management S.p.A. is engaged in the realization of the service platform for the control and diagnostic monitoring of sites of artistic, historical and cultural interest, based on the most advanced technological solutions inspired by the paradigms of Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis and Internet of Services. The main purpose of the system is to collect and analyze data from sensors and smart devices in the field and aimed at building an integrated knowledge system (Situation Awareness) and for diagnostic monitoring. Thus, thanks to the platform, it is made possible to collect data and information from systems in the field and combine it with any information from external data sources. The ultimate goal is to build an “overview” of the state of a site within which contextualized information enriched by all available data can be accessed.

The platform brings together several major systems that operate synergistically:

1) IoT system: used for data collection from the field and management of smart devices placed within the sites of interest;

2) Data Analysis System: through the combined adoption of algorithms with approaches based on statistical analysis, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning, the analytics component of the platform aspires to provide estimates and predictions about the behavior of objects in the field, estimate the reliability of collected data and sensor status, and assess possible impacts related to the preservation, conservation, and enhancement of cultural heritage and sites of interest. Specifically, the Data Analysis system uses artificial intelligence-based applications for advanced information processing. Through the Data Analysis system, it is possible to detect, spontaneously, the presence of anomalies and make predictions about the behavior of the systems being monitored. The data processing system allows processing of both near-real-time (streaming) data and data in batch mode for performing historical analysis;

3) Dashboard system: used for sharing channels for accessing and using data. The dashboard system allows visualization of data using maps, charts and tables.
